AIR LEAKS = MOLD, ROT, DECAY

Air leaks is more than just escaping air–it also means escaping moisture. Air barriers prevent the interior, moisture-laden air from entering the wall cavity where it can damage materials and promote mold growth.

AIR LEAKAGE ALLOWS 100X MORE MOISTURE TRANSFER

The Building Science Corporation studied how much water passes through drywall during a typical year.

A full sheet of drywall was compared to a full sheet of drywall with a 1″ hole. That one, tiny hole allowed 7.5 gallons of water through it because of air leakage.

Moisture Problems Related to Air Leakage

When moist air leaks out of your building, it leaves the moisture inside the wall, causing all sorts of unseen problems. From mold growth to wall failure, the effects of moisture deposits over time are devastating.
